Very positive

10 reviews: 10 positive, 0 mixed, 0 negative. 10 of 10 recommend it.

Every reviewer recommends it and finds it wears well. Most credit the titanium construction for keeping it light, see strong value for a titanium tool digital, and consider it tough enough for hard use. Several also praise the comfortable elastic strap, the toolless micro-adjusting clasp and the scratch-resistant hardened coating.

Where they differ. Several reviewers find the essential function set sufficient, while several others consider it too basic, citing the missing countdown timer and solar charging. On the display, several find the positive version clear at a glance, but several say the negative display gives up legibility.

PositiveRecommends, with caveats

The reviewer loves RZE's first digital watch for its titanium-and-sapphire build, legible positive display, likeable case and solid feel, but criticises its sparse functions, awkward button logic, wonky font, poor default Velcro strap and a bracelet that was very hard to size.

  • Otherwise praises the bracelet's clasp and micro-adjustment extension. 8:05
  • Suggests an RZE rubber strap should be the standard strap instead. 8:33
Valuemixed

  • Doubts the tool box case upgrade justifies its extra cost. 11:25

Originalitypositive
  • Credits RZE with tackling a digital watch few smaller brands attempt. 9:58

Unboxing G-Shock's New Competitor.

Video, 12 minHands-on reviewMay 2025

PositiveRecommends, with caveats

An unboxing that finds the UTD-8000 a durable, well-built titanium digital with excellent scratch-resistant material for the money and a real challenger to G-Shock. The display is only okay, with off-angle legibility loss and shadows from the bars, and features are basic.

Disclosure: Brand loaner

What they said, point by point
Case & proportionspositive
  • Finds the case very well constructed and durable in hand. 2:54
  • Notes the case is not particularly thin. 2:54
  • After opening it, believes the thickness is genuinely the minimum given the tightly packed internals. 11:04
  • Values the Ultrahex titanium's scratch resistance highly. 1:58
Dialmixed
  • Rates the display as acceptable but not great, legible and large from straight on. 3:52
  • Legibility drops sharply at steep side angles. 3:52

Finishing & buildpositive
  • Feels very well built overall. 2:54
  • Appreciates that the functional bezel screws are perfectly aligned, unlike some pricier watches. 4:51
  • Finds the caseback etching neat and high quality. 9:39

  • Bracelet integration with the case is not perfect, though not a deal breaker. 9:39
  • Likes the fabric strap and its unlimited velcro adjustment. 9:10
Functionalitymixed
  • Pushers feel good, with slightly more travel than Casio and a satisfying click. 4:22
  • Questions the 'advanced' module claim given the simple features. 5:20
  • Sapphire crystal with AR coating doesn't hurt legibility, an upgrade over many Casios. 5:49
  • Gets the impression it is extremely tough. 10:07
Wearabilitypositive
  • Doesn't wear as thick as the numbers imply. 8:40
  • Doesn't look as large as 43mm and is much smaller than metal G-Shocks. 7:43
Designpositive
  • Thinks it generally looks good on the wrist. 8:12
  • Yellow colourway wouldn't be a first choice but is distinctive. 8:12
  • Prefers the bright yellow on the strap for a casual look. 10:07
Valuepositive
  • Offers full-metal construction and high-end scratch resistance for far less than Casio equivalents. 2:25
Compared with
  • Casio F-91W: Backlight is better than the F-91W's.

  • Casio metal G-Shock: Much smaller, cheaper, and gives G-Shock a run for its money.

ArticleHands-on reviewMar 2025Jorg Weppelink

Very positiveRecommends

The reviewer calls it a brilliantly competent, comfortable full-titanium digital tool watch. It honours G-Shock styling while staying recognisably RZE. At its price it is a bargain compared with titanium G-Shocks, and the only reservation is that it could have been more original.

Designpositive
  • Feels like an ideal modern version of the MRG-100-1 G-Shock.
  • Considers the style well suited to the G-Shock-defined digital genre.

  • Values the hardened titanium coating for worry-free wear against scratches.
Wearabilitypositive
  • Finds it wears very well and comfortably, helped by the light titanium.
  • Has a substantial, competent presence yet does not feel big.
Bracelet & strappositive

  • Likes the bracelet taper and the toolless micro-adjustment clasp.
Functionalitypositive

  • Sees the resistance to water, dust and shocks as suiting an active lifestyle.
Originalitymixed
  • Would also have liked a completely original design.
  • Feels that the G-Shock nods coexist with clear RZE identity.
Valuepositive
  • Calls it a bargain compared with titanium G-Shocks costing about five times more.
  • Finds even the full retail price very affordable for full titanium.

Hands-On: RZE UTD-8000 Titanium Digital Watch

ArticleHands-on reviewMar 2025Ripley Sellers

PositiveRecommends, with caveats

Sees the UTD-8000 as a very strong first digital effort offering hardened titanium and G-Shock-like durability for under MoonSwatch money. Reservations are its sparse feature set, lack of solar charging, and thickness that isn't well disguised.

Suits: Buyers wanting G-Shock-style durability and low price without a plastic watch

What the review says, point by point
Valuepositive
  • Calls it a compelling value proposition even against big-name brands.
  • Says pricing is where the watch really shines.
  • Acknowledges a four-figure titanium G-Shock is objectively superior but a different purchase.
Case & proportionsmixed
  • Notes the case is far from thin due to the shock-absorbing module holder.
  • Feels it hides its thickness less elegantly than a square G-Shock of the same height.
  • Expects the case to survive whatever strenuous conditions owners encounter.
Wearabilitypositive
  • Credits titanium construction for a lightweight overall package.
  • Finds the stretchy, infinitely adjustable strap makes it very comfortable.
Dialmixed
  • Finds the large bold numerals not particularly elegant.
  • Praises strong at-a-glance legibility of the central display.
Movementmixed
  • Would have welcomed solar charging.
  • Nonetheless agrees with RZE's decision to avoid unproven solar tech for now.
  • Sees the custom module's lack of track record as the big question for buyers, offset by lifetime warranty.
Functionalitymixed
  • Believes a couple more modes could be added without complicating use.
  • Misses a countdown timer on such a utility-focused watch.
Bracelet & strappositive
  • Finds the elastic fabric strap highly comfortable and adjustable.
  • Says the hardened coating helps the bracelet resist scratches and scuffs.
  • Notes the bracelet is utilitarian but includes quick-release bars and tool-free micro-adjust.
Originalitypositive
  • Views it as a tangibly different take on a durable digital watch, not a direct G-Shock rival.
  • Says it has no direct equivalent in Casio's current range.
Compared with
  • Casio G-Shock MRGB5000: Objectively superior but costs vastly more; a categorically different purchase.
  • Casio G-Shock square (standard): Same height, but the G-Shock hides its thickness more elegantly.
  • Omega x Swatch MoonSwatch: UTD-8000 offers titanium and durability for less than a MoonSwatch.
